Human and Artefacts Research Ethics Committee (HAREC)

Terms of Reference

To review all research proposal applications that involve human subjects and/or artefacts; and to approve, require modifications, or reject research protocols in conformance with the University's Policy on the Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Human Participants and the Code of Practice for Research Involving Artefacts;
To review all amendments and project close reports relating to aforementioned approved projects;
To work closely with the related office(s)/unit(s) in the University for monitoring research projects to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the approved protocols; and to take appropriate actions for projects deviating from the approved protocols;
To examine and recommend any measures, policies and practices which may affect human participants or artefacts research;
To seek advice from external experts where necessary in the review of aforementioned projects and policies;
To deal with matters referred to it by the Committee on Research Practices; and to submit an annual report and other reports as required by the Committee.
